Professor Weiss and 2 Former CS Undergrads Win Best
Research Paper Award
The paper "Cost-Sensitive Learning vs. Sampling: Which is Best for Handling
Class Imbalance" by Dr. G. M. Weiss, Kate McCarthy (FCRH '05), and Bibi
Zabar (FCRH '05), received the best reserach paper award from the 2007
International Conference on Data Mining. The majority of the research
was conducted as part of a course project in Dr. Weiss' data mining course in
2005. An earlier version of the paper appeared in the First International
Workshop on Utility-Based Data Mining, which was held in 2005.
