Dr. Moniot awarded $50k grant to upgrade FTNCHEK

Fordham's Dr. Robert Moniot has been awarded a grant for $49,670 from the Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program Office, to upgrade the open-source program FTNCHEK so that it supports modern Fortran syntax. FTNCHEK is a static analyzer that helps check Fortran programs for bugs. It was originally written by Dr. Moniot with the help of undergraduate students two decades ago and accepted Fortran 77. Since then the Fortran language has undergone some major enhancements, and FTNCHEK has not kept pace. The grant is to fund a graduate research assistant who will add support for the new language features so that FTNCHEK can be used on modern Fortran code.
